NWS Weekend Round-Up 3

16 May , 2016

The football drew to a close this weekend, but the Premier League being the Premier League this season, we just knew there’d be one last dose of drama. We’ll take a look at the action from that, even more drama from the F1 and plenty more for you to get your teeth into.

We’ll begin North London and with one of football’s fiercest rivalries ended in a rather similar manner, yes, Arsenal finished their campaign in 2nd place, ahead of Tottenham. Same old Spurs aye? As if the Arsenal fans didn’t have enough to cheer, they were treated to a goal from club captain Mikel Arteta on his final game before retirement, although it’ll probably go down as an own goal, we won’t tell the Spaniard… yet.

So before revealing our Team of the Season later in the week, check out our final BPL Team of the Week, let us know who you think should have made it.

Elsewhere in the football world, Gonzalo Higuain broke an ancient record by scoring the highest amount of goals in a single Serie A campaign. His record breaking 36th goal was hardly a tap in either, take a look at his strike below.

In La Liga the title went down to the wire, Real Madrid were looking to pounce on any type of slip from Barcelona. But that wasn’t to be the case, instead this man bagged a hat-trick to ensure Barca would be champions, and make him top scorer in the league with a stunning 40 goals.

Away from football and to even more drama in the F1, in our Big Sporting Weekend preview we said that these two team-mates didn’t get along, but we weren’t expecting Hamilton and Rosberg to collide on the first lap and not finish. That wasn’t even the biggest shock of the Spanish Grand Prix either. With the two favourites out of the race, step forward 18-year-old Max Verstappen, who in his first race for Redbull took 1st place! An incredible achievement with or without the favourites.

To softball now, and before you start laughing just wait until you see how this junior got home without being struck out. You can only admire such determination and athleticism – incredible.

A spot of golf to finish, and a big congratulations to Jason Day for winning The Players Championship by 4 shots, earning his 10th PGA title, only Rory McIlroy has more of all players under 30. But we’ve got a shot from 2nd place Kevin Chappell to show you, and awesome chip from 100 yards, check it out.

Ohh before we go, in case you hadn’t heard… Will Grigg is on fire.
