5KG DUMBBELLS FAQs

Are 5kg dumbbells heavy enough to build muscle?
Yes, but it depends on the experience level of the "weightlifter" and the exercise carried out. Isolation exercises - also called "single-joint exercises" that use a smaller amount of muscle include tricep kickbacks, bicep curls, lateral raises, front raises and rear-delt flys. Even the most advanced bodybuilders would find performing 15, very slow and controlled reps difficult with a 5kg weight for exercises like rear-delt flys. Especially with a pause and squeeze at the end of the movement. Conversely, 5kg for bench press would be too light for intermediate and advanced weightlifters, and holding a 5kg weight in each hand would not provide much extra resistance to bodyweight squats. However, in terms of leg exercises, overhead lunges with dumbbells held in extended arms above the head, Bulgarian split squats, and weighted jumps would be extremely challenging when hitting the high rep ranges for most gym-goers. So it really depends - yes, 5kg is enough to build muscle for those new to the gym, depending on the exercise.
What's the difference between neoprene, rubber hex and chrome 5kg dumbbells?
The main difference comes down to coating, the feel and intended use. Neoprene dumbbells have a soft, non-slip outer layer over a cast iron core, making them comfortable to hold for high-rep work and studio-style classes; they're also colour-coded for quick weight selection. This helps if you have multiple sets of different weights. Rubber hex dumbbells feature a chrome handle with anti-crack rubber weights at each end. One benefit of the design is that the hexagonal head prevents rolling and protects your floor from impact damage. They are often used in gyms as they are great value and less likely to injure people's feet or damage the floor if dropped. Chrome dumbbells use a slick chrome steel finish with 1.2mm hill-style knurling on the handle. Chrome dumbbells have a premium look and a secure grip. This makes them ideal for commercial gyms and PT studios. For heavy-use commercial environments, our METIS Pro Urethane Dumbbells add an ultra-durable urethane coating. Designed for those who want the best, they use the latest material science and ultra-durable materials to withstand daily impact and long-term wear.
Are FORZA and METIS 5kg dumbbells sold as a pair or a single?
All 5kg dumbbells in our ranges are sold in pairs as standard. Whilst one dumbbell can be used for one-arm row and single-arm chest press, pairs are the standard training format. Two dumbbells of the same weight allows you to work both sides of the body evenly.
