12kg kettlebells

12kg kettlebells sit in the bracket between entry-level and intermediate weights, making it one of the most versatile weights in the range. For two-handed swings, it offers enough resistance to drive proper hip extension without dictating form. For goblet squats, cleans and rows, 12kg allows users to develop correct form and technique before stepping up to heavier weights. Single joint exercises including lateral raises, front raises and strict curls become genuinely demanding at 12kg. Turkish get-ups performed with a 12kg bell challenge shoulder stability and overhead control from the first rep. Our 12kg neoprene kettlebells are colour-coded and have a softer exterior that protects flooring and reduces noise. Cast iron 12kg kettlebells are also colour-coded with a subtle mark at the base of the handles to make it easy to distinguish between different kettlebell weights if buying more than one. All of our kettlebells are single-cast which means the handles from part of the kettlebell rather than being welded on to ensure their longevity and safety.

12KG KETTLEBELLS FAQs

Is a 12kg kettlebell the right weight to progress to from 8kg or 10kg?
For most users, 12kg is a natural next step once exercises like 10kg swings and goblet squats feel controlled and comfortable to the end of working sets. The 2kg jump is small enough to maintain technique but large enough to drive continued adaptation in terms of strength and endurance improvements. When increasing the weight that you use for a given exercise, it is generally recommended to progress with the smallest increase possible, so go from 8kg to 10kg, and 10kg to 12kg if the weights are available.
What exercises are best suited to a 12kg kettlebell?
The exercises that 12kg kettlebells are suited to depend on the user. 12kg works well for two-handed swings, clean & press and goblet squats for most intermediate level users. For reference, in HYROX races, women use 16kg kettlebells for the farmer's carries. So 12kg might be considered quite light for this exercise, however for single-joint exercises like bicep curls, it is a challenging weight for most lifters.
Do 12kg kettlebells suit both men and women?
Yes. 12kg is a common starting weight for men on ballistic movements such as swings and cleans, and a common working weight for women on the same lifts once correct technique is established. Correct technique is incredibly important for exercises like swings, which involve the lower back. Weight selection depends on the user's exercise and training experience rather than a fixed male or female standard. 12kg is a good weight for a whole body circuit, but it is generally optimal to have 2 or 3 different weights of kettlebells available for a given workout when possible. Deadlifts for example, will normally require a heavier kettlebell, whilst performing advanced exercises like pistol squats, or single-joint exercises like lateral raises, is very challenging with 12kg.
