16kg Kettlebells

16kg kettlebells are extremely versatile, and for many users, 16kg is the sweet spot with it being a manageable yet challenging weight to use for a wide array of exercises. Heavy enough to build strength and power through swings and kettlebell clean and press, it is also an advanced weight for Turkish Get Ups and an intermediate weight for single-arm rows. At Net World Sports, we have neoprene-coated and cast iron 16kg kettlebells. Unlike many other ranges, our kettlebells are single-cast, meaning that the handles are an integral element of the kettlebell rather than being welded on. This makes the kettlebells extremely robust and suitable for all exercises, including swings, presses and mobility exercises. Neoprene kettlebells are colour coded and offer a softer feel that is more forgiving. The cast iron kettlebells are equally as strong and robust, and have colour-coding near the base of the handle to make weight selection easier if buying multiple weights. Order your 16kg kettlebells today with next-day delivery from our UK HQ.

16KG KETTLEBELLS FAQs

Who is a 16kg kettlebell for?
A 16kg kettlebell suits a wide range of users, from intermediate lifters stepping up from lighter bells to experienced trainees using it as a working weight on ballistic and compound movements. For most recreational male lifters, 16kg is a sensible starting weight for two-handed swings, goblet squats and farmer's carries, with room to progress through higher rep ranges before stepping up. For most female lifters, 16kg sits firmly in the intermediate to advanced bracket on the same movements, and is the standard weight used in women's HYROX Open, Doubles and Relay farmer's carry stations. The 16kg is also widely used in rehab and prehab settings for stronger clients, in CrossFit WODs, and across kettlebell sport youth and junior competition formats. If you train regularly and have solid technique on swings, cleans and presses, a 16kg will cover the majority of your programming across strength, conditioning and sport-specific work.
What weight kettlebells are used for the HYROX farmer's carry, and where does 16kg fit in?
The HYROX farmer's carry is a 200m station, with weights set per division based on the current HYROX rulebook. In the individual race, Open Women carry 2 × 16kg, Open Men carry 2 × 24kg, Pro Women step up to 2 × 24kg, and Pro Men take on 2 × 32kg. In Doubles, Women's teams carry 2 × 16kg, Men's teams carry 2 × 24kg, and Mixed Doubles use 2 × 24kg. In Relay, weights follow the same gender split, 2 × 16kg for women and 2 × 24kg for men. The 16kg is the standard weight for every women's category at Open, Doubles and Relay level. Therefore, if you are a woman training for any of these competitions, a 16kg is a must to replicate the weights used on race day.
Is 16kg used in kettlebell sport competitions?
Under IUKL rules, the governing body for the majority of high level kettlebell sport competitions, 16kg is used by women in youth and junior categories for snatch, biathlon and long cycle events*. In men's amateur ranking, 16kg is the standard bell for snatch and biathlon, with athletes progressing to 20kg or 24kg as they move up the ranking tables. *The long cycle and biathlon events are both 10 minute long variations relating to or similar to the clean and jerk.
What do UK health & fitness bodies/organisations recommend in relation to training with a 16kg kettlebell?
The CMO, The UK Chief Medical Officers' Physical Activity Guidelines, don't cite or recommend specific weights. However, the guidelines do give a clear framework that a 16kg kettlebell fits into well. The headline recommendation is that all adults should do muscle strengthening activities (i.e. resistance training) at least 2 days per week. This is alongside 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity. For most recreational lifters, 16kg is a weight that provides a 'strength training load' for most people when it comes to exercises like farmer's carries and compound/large muscle group exercises, including single-arm rows.
