Any goals that are to be used for competitive play must comply with the regulation lacrosse goal dimensions that are set out by governing bodies such as England Lacrosse and World Lacrosse.

What is the regulation size of a lacrosse goal?
England Lacrosse and World Lacrosse state that goals must maintain consistent dimensions across both men’s and women’s games. Lacrosse goals should measure 6ft (1.8m) in width and 6ft (1.8m) in height. Regulation lacrosse goals are 7ft (2.1m) in depth, which ensures the ball does not enter the field of play once a goal is scored.
Goals used for competitive play should be made from 1.5in (3.81cm) metal pipe that has an outer diameter of 2in (5cm). The goals are positioned on the goal line in the middle of the lacrosse goal crease.
The lacrosse goal dimensions mentioned above remain consistent for pretty much all levels of play. The only time different goal sizes are used is for indoor/box lacrosse which uses 4ft/1.2m tall x 4ft 9in/1.45m wide goals, and for some junior lacrosse games.
What size are junior lacrosse goals?
For the most part most younger age group players/teams will use regulation size lacrosse goals. Children aged 8 and under can use 3ft (0.9m) x 3ft (0.9m) goals to help their development but it’s also fine to use full-size goals. Anyone over the age of 8 should use regulation size lacrosse goals.
Lacrosse goal colours
The colours for lacrosse goals are predominantly the same. They typically feature an orange goal frame which is the standard and a white net. The orange goal frame is set as the standard colour and is enforced by regulations to ensure visibility during play, whereas the colour of the net is optional. The vast majority of lacrosse goals feature white nets, as it is a standard colour that doesn’t contrast. Regulations advise that the net mesh size is more important than the nets specific colour.
Lacrosse goal net thickness
Lacrosse nets are typically available in twine thickness ranging from 2.5mm to 6mm. When buying a lacrosse goal, it will come equipped with a net between 3mm and 6mm which will protrude towards the back of the goal. When the net is secured, it should form a pyramid shape.
Depending on the level of play, we recommend that for elite level tournaments, you use a thicker 5 or 6mm net as they offer great robustness and can match high intensity games. Whereas junior level lacrosse or recreation games may find that a 3mm net will suffice. Although net thickness can vary, the key focus is the mesh size which should not exceed 1.4 inches to prevent lacrosse balls from passing through the net.
