How many corner flags do you need?

Some facility and pitch managers, may also choose to add halfway-line flags along the touchlines — often called touchline flags — but these are optional rather than essential.

In rugby union, there are typically 14 flags on the pitch. These include 4 corner flags where the try lines meet the touchlines, 4 flags where the dead-ball lines meet touchlines, and 6 flags positioned in line with the halfway line and 22-metre lines, 2 meters outside the touchlines within the playing enclosure.

The rules regarding Rugby League, including the pitch specifications, are set by the International Rugby League (IRL), the global governing body, and the Rugby Football League (RFL). Rugby League pitches require only 4 flags, in each corner where the try lines meet the touchlines.

How tall are corner flags?

In football, the rules are clearly set out in the Laws of the Game: corner flags must stand at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) tall. Rugby corner flags follow similar guidelines.
